Key

Quintessential African vista's, the Lowveld region spreads East from Waterval Boven towards Mozambique, and Northward toward The Kruger Park. Lush bushveld, this is postcard country.

Seasons:

Summer (Nov-Apr):

Lower in elevation and closer to the Tropic's, hot and humid summers are to be expected, with thunderstorms a regular occurance. Waterval Boven is slightly cooler, being a few hundred meters higher.

Autumn  (Apr-Jun):

The tail end of the rainy season with the temps dropping, is a spectacularly beautiful time to visit. Climbing conditions are pretty good, but still not as crisp as winter.

Winter (Jun-Oct):

As a whole the temperate climate is reasonably moderate as far as winter goes, and the best time to get outdoors. A decrease in thunderstorm activity and a thinning of the grass makes rest day game viewing a must.

Spring (Oct - Nov):

Similar to Autumn, the reverse is true with the rains following an increase in temps and humidity.

Travel:

The majority of Sport Climbing is Waterval Boven, a 3 hour drive East from Johannesburg. Public transport is poor in its service of climbing destinations. a car is recommended.
