Tierhoek campsite is situated in the rugged and remote Richtersveld region. It is a stunning area surrounded by a range of granite faces and boulders that make it an exciting spot for outdoor enthusiasts—particularly for bouldering and traditional climbing development.
The location offers a peaceful desert camping experience complemented by dramatic mountain views and unique geological formations typical of the Richtersveld landscape.
If driving in from Eksteenfontein, a high-clearance vehicle is needed and 4x4 even better. If driving in from Port Nolloth, a standard bakkie type will be fine, and a good driver could get a car there (not a Ferrari)

The granite faces do not yield much climbing, however the arete's, cracks and chimneys certainly do! More and more certainly is possible - it just needs you to go and explore.
Currently the campsite is not equipped however there are plans from the local (managing) community to ressurect some fascilities (lapa, ablussions, water), but don't bank on it just yet
At time of writing (late 2026) there is no official booking system.
