Ringwood is a small trad climbing crag on the next hill south of Monteseel, overlooking the N3 highway and the Umgeni SteamRailway depot at Inchanga Station. On some Sundays, a vintage train chugs up the rail line that runs below the climbing. These crags offer moderate-graded, old-style trad climbing with easy access. Morning shade makes this spot a good option on hot summer days.
Approach
The land is owned by Louis and Heather, who live in the large house and barn above the cliffs. Please contact Heather before arriving on 07721173579. Do not just show up unannounced.
From the parking, hike south for 200m to the top of the cliffs. There are abseil chains just over the edge in the top area of General Melchert’s Big Push. The abseil to the base is 15 m. It is also possible to scramble down around the South side of the cliffs.
